1999
A major effort began to do outreach to children. In the spring, 1,500 students attended a concert about the music, dance and history of the Celtic lands. Twenty children participated in an evening residency workshop on Irish Step Dance. In the fall, the Celtic Schoolhouse opened and 200 students participated. Teachers in area schools were provided with teaching guides. At Celtic Classic, the first Drum Major competition was held, won by Dennis Ducsik. Harrison Bailey III, current U.S. National Champion, of Easton, PA, competed in his first Celtic Classic Highland Games competition. Peter Gudmundsson of Reykjavik, Iceland, won his first Celtic Classic Championship.
