2004

2004 coverThere almost wasn’t a Celtic Classic in 2004. On September 18th, a week before opening day, the remnants of Hurricane Ivan produced excessive rainfall in the Lehigh Valley and caused the sudden floodingof local tributary streams that flow into the Lehigh River, including the Monocacy Creek. About 5 inches of rain fell on the Moravian College campus. The Grand Pavilion tent, the Monocacy Moor, and Celtic Heritage areas were all in the floodplain area of Monocacy creek, and by the time the rain stopped they were underneath 5 feet of water.  Volunteers scrambled to rescue lights, staging, electric boxes, and tent flooring from the water, but much was lost to the river.  Luckily, the water went down by the next day and the grounds were able to be cleaned up for Celtic Classic.
