Volunteer Application

 

These jobs are less physically demanding than others; light work and even some sitting.

The Celtic Quest    Patient and teaching individuals wanted to assist with the family oriented activities. Provide a fun and informative atmosphere for families visiting the Celtic Quest stations. May include assisting with games, answering questions, and helping with craft projects. For assisting younger attendees with games and dancing, this is perfect volunteer opportunity for Girl Scout troops.  Shifts available for Saturday and Sunday only.

Hospitality Sponsor Tent  Volunteers must be friendly and outgoing.   Assist Hospitality Chair and other volunteer staff to provide a pleasant atmosphere for our sponsors.  May include greeting sponsors as they enter, checking credentials.  Serve beverages and snacks.  Keep area clean of used paper goods, etc.  Primarily standing and moving about may be required.

Performer Hospitality  Volunteers must be friendly and outgoing.   Provide a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere for the performers to get away from the festival and crowds.  Serve beverages and snacks.  Keep area clean of used paper goods, etc.  The trailer door is accessed by travelling up and down three steps.

Office Assistant  Assist in office trailer with incoming telephone calls; answering all manner of questions, giving geographic directions, delivering messages.  Interact with Volunteer Committee in communications between the festival and volunteers who are calling in.  Extremely busy and sometimes hectic environment.

Parking   Monitor parking areas to ensure use by designated tags only. 

These jobs often involve long periods of standing or a lot of walking around the festival grounds

Beer and Wine Service  Must be 21 years of age.  Rotating jobs to include dispensing beer into cups and mugs; open wine bottles, dispense wine into cups; sell souvenir mugs; collect tickets in exchange for mugs and alcohol; check ID to verify customer is at least 21 years old.  Volunteers may not drink alcohol while serving beer or wine (or while on duty at any position), to comply with PA Liquor Control Board laws.

Beer Site Prep  Friday afternoon only, 1-4pm.  Make the beer tents operational.  Hang signs, set out cups, mugs, and other supplies.  Cover tables with table runners, hang hand towels, put out buckets and sponges, and help deliver supplies.  May be asked to help with additional set-up in other areas.  Must be able to walk the grounds, and carry supplies from site to site.  Be flexible and work with a team.

Food & Beverage Ticket Sellers  Sell $1 value tickets which our attendees will use to purchase food and beverage from our vendors.  Must be comfortable operating electronic credit card machine; training will be provided.  Handling money and interacting with our attendees.  Be prepared to answer all manner of questions and put on a friendly face.

Games Usher   Make sure everyone coming into the Grandstand Seating area is wearing a wrist band, and help to find seating.   If patrons try to enter without wristbands, politely direct them to the front of the Games booth to purchase admission wristbands.  Help keep entrance and areas clear so patrons with wristbands can come and go freely.  The Games are handicap accessible so it may be necessary to assist handicapped patrons find seating.  Be aware of the events schedule, prices for admission, and the event taking place and coming up so that you may answer questions if requested.

Information   Various locations, including (but not limited to) ticket sales booths and beer tents.  Requires some standing and walking around, being Very Visible to our attendees.  Help festival attendees get where they wish to go.  Answer questions of all kinds and provide directions.  Maps and entertainment schedules will be provided for hand-outs.

IceHouse Usher  Need diplomatic, firm and polite, people-handling skills.  Assist Stage Manager/Announcer in keeping backstage areas clear of unauthorized personnel.  Greet concert attendees, hand out program information, assist with seating, and monitor door during performance; prevent attendees from entering during the middle of a song.  Enforce no food or beverage allowed in concert area.  Keep the lobby area clean.  Serve as Information volunteer, with answers to many questions regarding the entire festival.  Answer directly to Stage Manager/Announcer.  Great place to be for an indoor concert.

Parade Assistant  Must be 18 years of age.  Assist with crowd control along the Parade route on Saturday.  Assist with coordinating the various pipe bands as they fall-in for the Parade.

Pipe Band Steward  Must be 18 years of age.  Assist in staging of the pipe bands for the competition on Saturday and Sunday.  Work closely with Pipe Band committee in the coordination of bands to the competition field.   

Souvenirs  People-friendly, retail experience preferred.  Help to keep merchandise stocked, and assist customers with their purchases.

 

These jobs could require some muscle!

Pre-Festival Set-Up   During the two weekends and the week before the festival – rain or shine – unload three PODS of fence posts, booth frames, stages, fencing, and other items, and distribute around the mile-long festival grounds.  Lifting items as heavy as 50 pounds or more.  Some new construction:  painting, setting up booths and fencing, and other manual tasks necessary to prepare for the event.  Wednesday / Thursday / Friday before the festival, setting up chairs and tables throughout the festival grounds.  Basically it is a construction job site; we use safety glasses with power equipment; wear gloves if you’d like to protect your hands; closed-toe shoes or boots are mandatory – plenty of walking, so footwear should be both protective and comfortable.

Post-Festival Tear Down   The Monday and weekend following the festival, cleaning up the grounds:  fold and stack tables and chairs, dismantle pop-up booths, remove fencing and signage.  Pack and load it all back into the PODS.  Same Safety Practice as for Pre-Festival Set-Up.

Site Prep   Prepare sites for festival attendees; general clean-up, set and reset tables and chairs, wipe down surfaces clean and dry, Saturday and Sunday mornings during festival weekend.

Stage Hands   Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs over short distances, and up and down stairs, loading equipment into and out of Gators.  Good people skills needed to assist Stage Manager in keeping backstage area clear of unauthorized personnel, and to assist Fire Marshall in keeping aisles clear of baby carriages, strollers, wheelchairs etc, Firmly and Politely.  Assist Site Supervisor in the Big picture:  pick up trash, move tables and chairs, keep audience away from the stage; deliver equipment and gear to other sites and stages.  Keep backstage tidy, and obtain beverages and refreshments as needed.  Flexibility necessary:  may be required to help in other areas than originally assigned.  Self starters – do what needs doing without waiting to be told.  Assist performers as needed.  Answer directly to Site Supervisor and Stage Manager/Announcer.

Stage Manager/Announcers   Coordinator between sound company personnel, performing artists, and stage.  Keep the entertainment on schedule, cutting set lengths if necessary.  Introduce the performers; interact with the performers as they arrive and before they go on stage; check with them for proper pronunciations.  Know who the sponsors are for the venue and for each performer, and plug the sponsors to the audience.  Make Public Service Announcements (PSAs) – reminders for no smoking, stay out of the creek, etc.  Complete Performer Evaluation sheets for each artist.

Supply Runner   Deliver supplies such as ice, cups, mugs, etc. where needed.  Also cases of soda and water to sponsor and performer hospitality areas.  Must be able to carry up to 20 lbs.
