Do you enjoy Irish music, and want to learn how to play the Bodhran, an ancient Irish drum? In this workshop, instructor George Fairchild will teach you the basic techniques and get everyone playing along regardless of your skill level.
The bodhran is usually made of a wooden circular frame covered in goatskin, and it is played using a wooden stick called a tipper or cipin. For our workshop, you may bring your own bodhran and tipper, or we will be distributing boxes and wooden dowels for you to use as a substitute.
In this fun and entertaining workshop, you will see a demonstration of the instrument, and learn the basics of the bodhran and tipper technique. An accompanist will add to a vibrant musical atmosphere.
George Fairchild has been a prominent member of the Lehigh Valley Celtic music scene for the last 18 years. He has competed in the All-Ireland Music Championship on bodhrán and has performed with notable world-class musicians such as Cherish the Ladies and Eileen Ivers. When he's not performing on stage or playing at local music sessions, George spends his time as an Adjunct Professor and Lab Coordinator in the Moravian College Chemistry Department.
